You can pick and taste both the red and yellow varieties called Aiko in their clean-house greenhouses, and taste the juice derived from them. Two farm families do it all-from seeding to bottling-in making this juice-with absolutely no salt, sugar or preservatives added. The juice is so thick you have to shake the bottle upside down to get it to pour–and it’s so popular it sells out year after year.
Nayoro city lies in the basin of the Teshio River, a class-one river in Hokkaido, so it reaps the abundant water resources for upland farming. With the surroundings, it is the northernmost such area in Japan.
The name North Farm44 comes from being at 44 ° north latitude.
The Topempe brand name of tomato juice comes from the Ainu word for “a sweet thing”.
